About SGM

SGM began in 1954 in Manerbio, in the Brescia province of northern Italy, a region with a reputation for steel mills and metalworking. Two lines shaped the company from the start and still anchor it today: lifting magnets for the steel industry and magnetic separation for metal recycling. Over the decades, SGM became a world leader, engineering its separation technologies in-house, from eddy current and inductive sensor separators to X-ray and optical sorters and gravimetric systems. Headquartered in Italy, the company works through subsidiaries in Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, China, and India, backed by demonstration and test centers on three continents.

What SGM is known for

SGM is best known for pulling metal out of mixed material, from heavy ferrous scrap to fine non-ferrous fragments.

Lifting magnets: overhead magnets that handle and load steel scrap, billets, and coil in mills and yards.

Overband and drum magnets: suspended and drum separators that pull ferrous metal out of a moving stream of scrap metal.

Eddy current separators: rotor-based units that eject aluminum and other non-ferrous metals from the flow.

Inductive sensor sorters: sensor-driven machines that identify and separate all-metal fractions from inert material.

X-ray and optical sorters: systems that split material by density or color for higher recovery and purity.
