Fluent supplies motorized and belt-driven conveyor belt brushes that clear residual carryback from smooth, cleated, chevron, ribbed, grooved, and worn rubber belts. For Fluent conveyors and for retrofit installations on any manufacturer's equipment.
An electric motor turns the brush counter to belt travel, so cleaning aggression stays constant regardless of belt speed or load. Two bristle geometries are available. Spiral brushes wrap bristles continuously around the shaft and release dry fines cleanly. Strip brushes mount brush strips on a series of hubs, and the open pattern sheds moist material.
Best for: dry fines held in cleats and chevrons, moist or clinging carryback, and belts running variable speed or load.
A hold-down roller drives the brush, spinning it against belt direction with no motor, wiring, or controls. An enclosure covers the drive, removes pinch points, and keeps material out of the V-belt. Adjustable tensioners hold brush-to-belt contact as the bristles wear.
Best for: mounting points with no line power nearby, chevron and cleated profiles up to 1/2", and belts joined with either mechanical or vulcanized splices.

We select based on belt surface, material behavior, and available power. Use this as a general reference, then confirm the specification for your conveyor. Profile height matters most on chevron cleated belts.
Width, speed, construction, and cover surface, whether that is smooth top, rough top, cleated, chevron, or raised rib. Record cleat or rib height, since anything above 1/2" falls outside standard brush geometry. Note running direction and whether the belt reverses.
Fastener type and condition. Both drive types pass over mechanical splices and vulcanized joints, but fastener profile and protrusion inform bristle stiffness and contact pressure.
Conveyed material, particle size, moisture, adhesiveness, fiber content, abrasiveness, and operating temperature. Dry fines usually require a spiral brush; moist and clinging material usually requires a strip. Mixed streams on recycling belts often contain both and are specified for the worst case.
Return-run clearance, distance from the head pulley, chute access, and service clearance. A brush needs sufficient clearance, plus room to change the roll without pulling large sections of guarding. Confirm the return idlers downstream of the mounting point are clear of buildup before measuring.
Line voltage and phase at the mounting point, or belt-driven where no supply is available. Motorized units pair with standard conveyor motors. Name what already cleans the belt, since a brush behind a primary blade is specified differently than a brush running alone. Mount the brush in the secondary position, where the belt leaves the discharge pulley. Where clearance prevents that, move further along the return run to a point supported by an idler or pulley. We recommend a precleaner on the face of the discharge pulley below the material stream even with a brush fitted.
Set the brush square to the belt and centered within the belt edges. Correct tracking before fitting anything new, because a belt running off center will wear one end of the roll and leave the other end clean. Our guide on how to track a conveyor belt covers the adjustment sequence
Tension to the cleaner rating. Over-tensioning a brush flattens the bristle tips, loads the drive, and does not improve cleaning. Lock out the conveyor before any inspection or adjustment, and confirm guarding is reinstated afterward per OSHA conveyor guarding requirements.
Shred fines and rubber dust cling to the cover through the discharge and load the return idlers, and a cleated belt on a steep incline holds the worst of it. Strip brushes suit the moist, tacky carryback that comes off wet-processed rubber. See conveyor belts for tire recycling.
Paper dust and short fiber sit on the belt after discharge and build on return components. Fiber wraps a scraper arm before it wraps a strip brush, which is the usual reason paper lines move to bristle cleaning. See conveyor belts for OCC recycling.
Flake, film, label residue, and dry fines accumulate on sort station belts running continuously under sorters. A brush keeps the return face clean without the blade contact that shortens cover life on thin belts. See conveyor belts for single stream recycling.
Sand, dust, and small adherent particles reach the return belt and grind between cover and idler. Dry fines and adherent residue are a straightforward brush application. Sharp fragments, large chunks, and heavily abrasive carryback need a review, and often a steel-bristle fill. See conveyor belts for handling sand.
