The best conveyors for aggregates are pulley-driven or roller chain conveyors with belts and containment features matched to sand, gravel, crushed stone, or other aggregates.
Aggregates operations usually include a system of conveyors and equipment. You’ll choose conveyors based on where they sit in your process, not the material you’re processing. A roller chain conveyor under a crusher and a trough idler running a long overland haul might both move stone, but they do different jobs, and the job determines the conveyor type.
Position in the flow determines four things:
Required throughput
Transportation distance
Containment requirements against spillage and wind
Impact and abrasion resilience
We’ll map conveyor types to their place in a typical aggregates process. We’ll also discuss belt considerations, containment, and cleaning choices that keep aggregates conveyors working efficiently in wet, dusty, and abrasive conditions.

Aggregate moves through pit feed, primary transport, crushing and screening, transfer points, staging, and load-out. Each stage can be optimized through purpose-built conveyors.
Aggregate is wet, dusty, and abrasive, so the belt, containment, and cleaning choices impact performance as much as the conveyor type. These are the considerations worth settling before anyone quotes a system.
Aggregate conveyors carry the same hazards as any heavy bulk system: moving belts, pinch points at pulleys, and exposed drives. Guarding, emergency stops, and pull cords are standard requirements, and lockout/tagout access has to be designed in for cleaning and maintenance. Building service access into the layout from the start keeps inspection and belt work fast and safe; see how to reduce conveyor hazards for more details.

Fluent designs and builds custom conveyors for abrasive, high-volume bulk material. If you are specing a conveyor for your aggregates operation, contact us to talk through your project, or send the material type, target capacity, and run dimensions, and our engineering team will scope a system to meet your requirements.
