Metering wheels are powered and rotate around a vertical axis, mounted at the conveyor side with their face toward the product path. Wheels operate in opposed pairs, so products contact both faces at once. Because the faces are powered, they correct lateral position with force in the direction of travel.
At belt speed, the position centers product without altering spacing. Above belt speed, each product accelerates through the pinch and pulls a gap from the one behind. Every diverter on a sortation conveyor uses product gaps to know where one product ends and the next begins.
The base configuration ships with a VFD for manual speed adjustment, adequate for a consistent product mix. Where the mix varies by order or shift, wheel speed can tie into the line control scheme so a recipe change moves the metering position with it. Fluent builds UL 508A-specified custom control panels and integrates metering wheels into complete line control and safety schemes.
Fluent retrofits metering wheels onto conveyors of any make. We work from your drawings or field measurements. Brackets are fabricated to the receiving frame, and the assembly ships ready to bolt on.
