A 2-ply conveyor belt (also known as a double-ply or multi-ply belt) is made of two fabric layers (plies). An inner rubber or elastomer layer provides adhesion between plies. The belt is typically coated in rubber or PVC.
2-ply belts are durable, flexible, and impact-resistant. They can be coated in food-grade surface finishes and compounds that resist heat abrasion, fire, oil, and chemicals. They can also be integrally molded or equipped with cleats for improved material handling.
2-ply belts are a popular choice for light-to-medium-duty applications from recycling to food processing. They attach to slider bed and flat idler conveyors for general-purpose conveyance.
2-ply belts are usually 3–8mm thick. Belt thickness depends on the manufacturer, carcass composition, and cover thickness. 2-ply belts with slim carcass layers and covers can be as thin as 2mm, while steel-reenforced carcasses with thick cover material can exceed 10mm.
