Frequently Asked Questions
  • What are conveyor idlers?

Conveyor Idlers are a roller or sets or rollers positioned by a mounting bracket. They are designed in different layouts to shape and steer the belt as needed by the application.

  • What does an idler roller do?

There are several types of idlers depending on the type of conveyor you have or are in need of.

Return Idlers: These are used to help keep tension on the return side of the belt and keep tracking uniform and true.

Trough Idlers: These are on the top side of the frame where the belting rides on. This creates less friction allowing the idlers to rotate as the pulley drives the belt forwards. These also help support bulk loads, so the belt does not “dip” down.

  • How long will it take to deliver a replacement idler?

Replacement conveyor idlers lead times are all dependent on the complexity and standardization of the idlers. For existing Fluent idlers typical lead times are roughly 5 business days plus shipping.

If you have a non-Fluent idler, please get us the exact part numbers and manufacturer and we will see if we can assist in getting you a quote. Once we have all critical dimensions we need and after you place the order, you will receive approval drawings to 100% validate all dimensions.

Lead times will be determined at the time of payment.

  • What is a troughing idler?

Troughing idlers are bolts on brackets that hold 3 rollers in a troughed configuration. This is to guide the belt and form it so that it holds material in and supports bulk loads. Using idlers reduces friction and limits the wear on the belt in dirty abrasive environments. Fluent Conveyors offers many different types of idlers including: CEMA rated, mine duty, return, self-aligning, channel inset, equal troughing, impact, unequal and many more.
